MISSION AND VALUES
Northwest Neighbors of Pasadena seeks to engage our community in working towards justice, raising up leaders in the community through the intentional development and holistic investment in children and youth.
Incarnation
First and foremost, we value living in the neighborhood in which we work. Every staff member lives in or around the square mile area known as Villa Parke - a vibrant but under-resourced Latino community. It is our belief that we can only truly love our neighbors when we are in relationship with our neighbors. We work for the transformation of the city, but never at the expense of the people and their culture.
Reconciliation
We pursue, through programmatic and relational means, reconciliation between neighbors of different ethnicities and social classes. We believe that we are created to be one family, embracing, encouraging, and understanding one another's differences. And it is through this reconciliation that we can experience healing and be a presence of peace around us. As an organization, we encourage the relocation and retention of individuals and families of all ethnicities and backgrounds into our neighborhood.
Development
Our hope is not simply to develop a community of friends who enjoy spending time with us, but we strive to raise up a generation of leaders in our community who will grow in their maturity and faith. We believe in the natural skills and gifts of all of our students, and seek to deepen our students’ understanding of their potential through leadership development opportunities, exposure trips, tutoring programs, and direct mentorship.
Transformation
While we live in the city, we seek the mutual transformation of our community, as well as ourselves. We approach our relationship with our community with a desire to learn and be challenged in our understanding of what it means to be a neighbor.
